Audio Story Draft

Hello!

For this audio story draft I decided to create a story based on spring fashion. It just started to get sunny in Pullman so I thought this would be a perfect time to discuss spring fashion! At the beginning of my story I decided to explain one of my favorite spring outfits; after that, I interviewed my friends Clarisa, Emily and Jack about their favorite looks and places to get things.

This story relates to my blog topic because I discuss my favorite spring outfit and then ask my friends what their favorite spring colors are and where they enjoy shopping. My friends and I are significant to this story because we talk about fashion and other topics related to fashion.

My design process started with me recording myself for the beginning of my story and the end. I decided I wanted to do that because it would give my story a parallel element. After recording myself I conducted an interview with my friend Emily and Clarisa. I asked them both what their favorite spring color was. I thought this would be good for my story because certain seasons have more favorable colors. Clarisa and Emily said two light colors because it is lighter in the day now. I then asked them where they like to get their favorite sunglasses because sunglasses are always a statement piece! After interviewing Emily and Clarisa I interviewed my friend Jack; I asked Jack what his favorite spring outfit was because I wanted a boy’s fashion opinion in my story.

After collecting all my recordings, I put them into Adobe Audition and cut down each track so they sounded more professional. I also added in chill background music in-between tracks to make it more interesting. I downloaded this music from https://freesound.org/people/klaudux/sounds/264081/which is a website with a Creative Commons License. After I listened to my story all together I enjoyed it because it turned out well and it’s just my first draft!

I hope you enjoy!

  1. For my own audio draft story, I thought I did pretty well. I enjoyed the music I added in the beginning and end because it made my story feel complete. One critique I have for myself is to make my story flow more. At the moment, I feel like the clips don’t mesh well. One way I can fix this is to introduce each little clip and explain what I’m asking. I feel like this would make the story flow better. Another critique I have for myself would be to make my voice sound more excited. I noticed my voice was very monotone; I believe if I change the tones in my voice it will make the story more interesting. I also think it will make me seem more passionate about my topic (which I am!). In addition to those critiques, I think I could look for better music to add at the beginning and end. Right now, its pop music, but I want something that relates to fashion more. Maybe like a sowing machine or scissors cutting. Overall, I liked my audio draft!

  2. I really like how structured your audio is and how it receives great attention towards your audio story. I think this is something very different from anything I’d expect from an audio story and that’s a good thing in my opinion. As a man, I never thought listening to people describe their spring outfit would be this interesting to listen. My only critique I really have for this audio story is the music. I believe having the music fade in and out of the audio would blend more with the audio and may improve in this well made audio story. You can simply select the music audio and manually arrange how loud you want your music to be, when it will fade in and when it will fade out. I really did like how you explained what you were talking about in the beginning to draw your audience in. this feat really made your audio more interesting and entertaining to listen and I hope this advice can help you improve your draft.

  3. Ruby,
I think that you have a great draft so far! Your topic is interesting and very relevant with it just beginning to warm up. The music that you added on the intro and outro was a very nice touch that worked well. I really like that you interviewed your friends for this because it adds a few different voices into the mix. The idea to ask a guy was a nice touch as well. You did a good job blending it so that it flows smoothly from question to question in the interview portion. As you said in your critique, I think that the only thing that would work better is a little bit more excitement and changing of the tone in your voice. Overall, I think that you are off to a great start, and with a few minor touches, you will have a super solid final draft. Good Job!

  4. I love your topic and how you structured your audio story! Incorporating your own opinion and ideas and adding those of your friends made the track more entertaining than just listening to you talk the entire time. I also really enjoy the music you used as an intro/outro. It gives the piece a completed and polished feel. The transition from music to just you speaking seems is a little abrupt and adding the fade to the transition may help that. Another idea could be to keep the music going the whole time as background ambience. The volume for the part with speaking would need to be adjusting obviously, but I think that could be a nice addition. A small critique, that may just be my opinion, is that you sound a little bored while discussing your topic. Your tone is a little off. If you sounded more excited about what you’re talking about that could engage a listener more. Overall, I think your idea is very creative and I love how you added the interviews!
