Draft of Graphic Design Project

Hello!

For my Graphic Design Project I chose to put together photos emphasizing my unique fashion from some of my favorite nights! There are three categories I want to cover in my final style project: music concerts, formals and Friday night outfits. In addition, I wanted to play with black & white photos and add words, text and other images in bright colors for the final. The photos I collected were all from my camera roll and for my final I will collect more photos from websites like Flickr. In my draft, I have no color at the moment because I am unsure of how I want to incorporate it. I got the idea of black & white photos with pops of color from magazines. In the past, I have seen magazine photos in black & white with titles or text in bright red and my eye was intrigued. I decided I wanted to try this type of art and see how well it could work with fashion photos.

The process for creating my project was a little difficult. I first had to think of a fashion idea and how I wanted to express my favorite looks. I started going through my camera roll and noticed all of my favorite outfits came from an eventful night, and that is how I chose my topic: fun night out outfits.

For the photos in my project I had to cut out each of the backgrounds in order for them to look cleaner and more polished. I then had to fit them all together so they lined up nicely. I used lots of layers and will continue to add more with text and pops of color. Some technical issues I faced were creating a colored textbox and fitting all of the photos in one space. I will be watching more tutorials in the future to ensure my final project looks the way I want it. Enjoy!

  1. For my graphic design draft, I have lots of editing to do. Two things I could work on are, the use of empty space and adding color. One critique I have for myself is that there is way too much empty space in my draft. The reason being, is that I have not yet chosen a background. I have been deciding between a red sparkly background or to just fill the whole piece with overlapping pictures. The second critique I have for myself is that the black and white by itself is too boring, there needs to be pops of color. In order to do that, I will either add in a background or add red text around the photos. Although I have lots to do, I do really like my topic. I think it fits perfect with my life and shows a lot of my unique fashion ideas. It will give people a better idea of what my personal style is like.

  2. I love that you have this black and white color theme I think it goes well with the photos you have decided to use. I also like the movement of this piece and the way the photos are very active. If I had to suggest anything Id add a lot ore photos and really collage and layer them. I feel like it will help supplement the movement and energy that all these phots bring. I’d use the same similar types of photo that are very active as well. Although minimal looks fine as well like you have it but maybe rearrange the photos to be more aesthetically pleasing. Another thing I’d work on is the edges of the photos you have cropped out. I suggest using “select and mask” to smooth out the edges or shift them so those harsh lines aren’t visible. Other than those I feel like you have a string concept and I really like it!

  3. Hey Ruby! Looks pretty cool so far. From what you said in the post itself, and your comment, there’s a bit that could be improved upon here, I’ll try not to sound redundant. Instead, the idea is great! Fashion is ever changing and your documentation of it sounds awesome! However, it’s kind of sporadic in the sense that there really isn’t anything tying the photos together. You mentioned adding color and text which will absolutely help with cohesion and unity. Maybe consider using just your top 3 photos? Turn it into a fashion magazine cover, or a page within a fashion magazine with the title being “Concerts, Formals, and Friday nights!” or something like that. Keep up the good work!
